Letter #38 - Week 40: Lengua Para el Don de Lenguas

Image
June 24. 2019 Hola Everyone! This week came with a lot of miracles and blessings. I went on two exchanges this week with Sister Meyer, one in Newtown and one here in Stamford. We went to a Mexican restaurant while in Stamford, and I was feeling particularly adventurous (probably more than I ever have been in my entire life), so I ordered a cow tongue taco. I only had one bite, and it made me feel queasy for the rest of the night, but it was worth it. it didn't taste bad, it was just a little chewy for my liking. I don't know if I have the gift of tongues in greater abundance after that experience, but I thought that it was worth a shot. That night we also visited a member who lived by the beach and gave us mangoes, so Sister Meyer wanted to pretend that we were in Bermuda. It was an enchanting exercise. Mirella is amazing! Satan has really been taking shots at her these past couple of weeks, but she's been getting through them like a champ and received con...

Letter #37 - Week 39: Ran Through the Mill

Image
June 17, 2019 Hola Everyone! This week has been quite eventful. As a companionship this week we have had an ear infection, laryngitis, and had to close and move into a new apartment. We have seen plenty of miracles and tender mercies that have come with all the madness. I seem to remember a couple of weeks ago saying that if I could just sleep a couple of days, then I could do the rest of my mission strong. It might have not been in quite the way that expected, but I know that Heavenly Father is mindful of me and knew that a little sickness was just what I needed to keep my morale up. Missing church helped me remember how amazing the members here are. We were able to ask them about specific people and they all knew where they were, whether or not they attended sacrament meeting. We are so blessed with members who truly know what it means to feed His sheep and go after the one. As a ward we have been trying to widen our efforts by getting ward leadership more invol...

Letter #36 - Week 38: The Roaring 20's

Image
June 10, 2019 Hola Everyone! We were able to be a part of some pretty big miracles this week, which is what we needed since we've spent so much time in meetings. We found THREE people to teach without KNOCKING A SINGLE DOOR. That's what I call member missionary work, what a time to be alive. We've been also been working on including members in lessons through video, where the member introduces themself, bears testimony of a gospel principle, and invites the person to church. We haven't tried it out much yet, but I think they've been experimenting with it...

Letter #35 - Week 37: Meetings, More Meetings, and Baptism? Yes Way, José!

Image
June 5, 2019 Hola Everyone! What a week. José was baptized and comfirmed this weekend! He was slightly put-off about how many people came to support him (he was annoyed that there were more than five people, haha), but when we told him he could be an example to them just like Jesus Christ when He was baptized, he warmed up enough to sit down and let us start the service. On Tuesday we taught him his first after-baptism lesson and he knows so much! The power of the Holy Ghost is evident when there are a bounty of those who don't have it. I got a curveball this transfer- they told me that I wasn't going to get a new companion, but that was a stretch. Between all of the meetings from Sister Jeppson being a Sister Training Leader and her going home, I will (or have been) companions with Sister Meyer for at least six days. Attached is a cute picture of us. The zillion and a half meetings also contributed to Wednesday preparation day as well. On Monday there was ...

Letter #34 - Week 36: Wonder of Wonders, Miracle of Miracles

Image
May 27, 2019 Hola Everyone! Wow, what a week. I guess we can start off this email by commemorating the fact that this is my first transfer with a change in area and/or companion! Hermana Jeppson and I will be staying together for another six weeks, then we'll be sending her away on a plane. Two of my other former companions will be going home with her in July, making already four that have gone home 😱 Time is going by scary fast. Though my area and companion might not be hanging, there are certainly still changes going about. Hermana Jeppson will be serving as a Sister Training Leader along with Sister Stegal up in Newtown. She has never been a part of a split Sister Training Leader pool before, so that will be new for her. We moved apartments today while waiting for a new apartment in our old complex to open up, so we'll be moving again in a couple of weeks. Hermana Murphy is going to be training a new missionary! Her companion Hermana Haws will be a Sister T...

Letter #33 - Week 35: I Guess I Just Have That Country Bumpkin Vibe, Maybe It's The Food In My Hair

Image
May 20, 2019 Hola Everyone! This week was a week of miracles! It was our best proselytizing week of the transfer, and we met such a sweet soul. Her name is Mirella, and she is dating a member of the YSA ward. We decided to look her up a couple of weeks back, and she wasn't home. I apparently called her, but I only kind of remember it and obviously forgot about it. We then went to look her up again and she turned out to be one of the coolest people ever! On our first real lesson she looked at a calendar and decided that June 15th was a good day to be baptized. We couldn't agree more! She is so prepared to start living more fully the Gospel of Jesus Christ in her life. It is going to bless her so much, so stay tuned. We saw lots of huge miracles with little José this week. I now have a greater testimony that through the small efforts of many that Heavenly Father works His greatest miracles. As we put our best foot forward in faith, God will make much more of our ef...

Letter #32 - Week 34: Hicks and Ticks and Haitian Enchiladas

Image
May 13, 2019 Hola Everyone! A lot happened this week. On Monday I dyed Hermana Jeppson's hair, so that was exciting and a new experience for me. We were doing some tidying up in the apartment, and Hermana Tua'one left her mark in several places. I was going to wait to send her a bunch of pictures of stuff that I've found here, but we didn't really take any pictures this week, so spoiler alert Hermana. As a mission we've been working on effectively asking for referrals while we teach lessons. We were teaching the Law of Chastity to a lady who won't pray to know if anything is true (even the Bible) *facepalm*, so I thought it was an excellent opportunity to practice. I asked her at the end if she knew of anyone who could use the blessings of the Law of Chastity, and she totally wrecked me for judging people and told me that I shouldn't be doing that when we're all sinners. I guess President always tells us to make 1000 mistakes a d...

Letter #31 - Week 33: Tapping on the Glass and Peruvian Grandma Feet

Image
May 6, 2019 Hola Everyone! This week we saw a lot of miracles. We started it out by deciding to stop teaching five people. I was nervous about it and I didn't really want to start off the week like that, but Hermana Jeppson told me that Heavenly Father would provide new people to teach if we let go of these ones, so I agreed. Through inspired look-ups and following the prompting to knock on certain doors, we were able to find five new people to teach this week! It was such a tender mercy to me to remember how aware the Lord is of all of his children. One of the greatest miracles we saw this week happened with a YSA girl named Anabelle. She lived a little bit out of the way, but her profile looked promising, so we decided to look her up. We had the opportunity to talk to her for a couple of minutes and she told us that she was supposed to be baptized in January but never went through with it. She told us that she had been thinking about coming back because...

Letter #30 - Week 32: The Number of Times it Takes for Me to Parallel Park Properly

Image
April 29, 2019 Hola Everyone! Driving Update- We are currently sitting in the local Firestone of Stamford waiting for our flat tire to get fixed. This morning we were driving to the church to have our dash light up saying that the tire pressure was low. To our horror, we watched in drop lower and lower as we approached the church. Fortunately, we made it to the church just fine and started to call Elder Palmer (our vehicle coordinator) to decide what we should do. HEAVENLY FATHER PROVIDES A WAY. A member and two of her kids were in the church parking lot after early morning seminary waiting for her husband to come to the church because one of her kids forgot their backpack at home. The husband was able to get the spare on in a jiffy and it's been a great adventure. Also, I can't parallel park (or park in general), but it's been getting a lot better. We had an amazing initiative this week were we talked about baptism with all of the people we're...

Week 31.1: Remember That One Time I Sent my Weekly From my Companion's Email

April 22, 2019 I do too. I love you all! -Hermana Prue

Letter #29 - Week 31: God Loves Me So He Sent Me Hermana Jeppson

Image
April 22, 2019 Hola Everyone! Update on driving- We ended up picking up Hermana Jeppson's luggage in Harlem, so 1. I drove in Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan last week and it was absolutely terrifying and I thought I was going to kill all of us (Heavenly Father has kept us safe) and 2. I GOT TO DRIVE MY TRAINER HOME. I was all shades of delighted to see one of my best friends last week. Attached is a picture of the happy reunion. Aside from driving in NYC, I've been improving my driving ability and tiwi has only told me to check my speed once so far (it was a sad day). Hermana Jeppson is incredible. She's from Utah, and only has a little bit longer on her mission (she goes home in July!!). She has so much love and discipline and knows how to take care of the people, which is good, because Stamford has a whole bunch of amazing people who need to be taken care of. It feels like we've known each other forever, and we've already seen so many miracl...

Letter #28 - Week 30: Area Book 3.0

Image
April 15, 2019 Hola Everyone! Do you know what Saturday was? Transfer calls. Both of my companions are leaving Stamford! The scariest part of that is that tomorrow I'm going to be driving through the Bronx and Queens in a attempt to make it out alive to Connecticut. All prayers appreciated. Hermana Hopkins will be going to New Rochelle and Hermana Cahill will be going to Yonkers. I will be receiving HERMANA JEPPSON, who is currently HERMANA JENSEN'S companion in Manhattan. I'm really excited to work with her and I'm sure there will be a bounty of adventures to come in the next six weeks. Other fun facts about transfers: -Hermana Murphy is going to be in my district, so district meeting is going to be explosive (I'll send a cute picture of us again at the CCM if you can't remember her) -This fact isn't fun, but the New Canaan area was closed, which means that -We will have an all Spanish district -There will be 8 missionaries in my district, which...
