Letter #38 - Week 40: Lengua Para el Don de Lenguas
June 24. 2019
Hola Everyone!
This week came with a lot of miracles and blessings. I went on two exchanges this week with Sister Meyer, one in Newtown and one here in Stamford. We went to a Mexican restaurant while in Stamford, and I was feeling particularly adventurous (probably more than I ever have been in my entire life), so I ordered a cow tongue taco. I only had one bite, and it made me feel queasy for the rest of the night, but it was worth it. it didn't taste bad, it was just a little chewy for my liking. I don't know if I have the gift of tongues in greater abundance after that experience, but I thought that it was worth a shot. That night we also visited a member who lived by the beach and gave us mangoes, so Sister Meyer wanted to pretend that we were in Bermuda. It was an enchanting exercise.
Mirella is amazing! Satan has really been taking shots at her these past couple of weeks, but she's been getting through them like a champ and received confirmation that Joseph Smith is a prophet this week. She is so excited for her baptism and is so ready. Annabelle is going on strong as well. She blew us away with her understanding of the Book of Mormon and her desire to serve and teach in the church. She has really bloomed these past couple of weeks and we're so excited for her baptism in July. Little José left for North Carolina yesterday with his family. We're sad to see them go, but we're really excited to se the progress they make in their lives. Him and Moisés are going to be incredible missionaries one day.
I had a really interesting study on prayer this week while studying about the Spirit in chapter four of Preach my Gospel. There is a personal study activity that invites you to evaluate your prayers and gives you some scales and some questions to think about. I would recommend that everyone does it. It helped me see where I could improve and how I could better develop my relationship with Heavenly Father.
A cool miracle that happened this week was with a member who's son got baptized on Sunday. It all starts with the Elder Groberg fireside that happened a few weeks ago. Elder Groberg said something along the lines of "Missionaries don't want food, they want referrals" and Sister McGowan took it to heart. She had invited some of her non-member family to come to her son's baptism and was at the church Saturday night taking pictures of it so she could show them what it looked liked. A woman walked by and was watching her, then finally approached her and asked about the church. They had a conversation about it, and this woman expressed that she wanted to come to church and learn more about it! Sister McGowan texted us today and told us that she wanted to meet up today #membersarethekey
I know that Heavenly Father has a plan for each one of us and and desires us to to become as He is. I know that we can become perfect through Christ, and that the Atonement of Jesus Christ is the only way. I am so blessed to have the gospel in my life, and to be at this place at this time. As we simplify and bring it back to the basics, we will be able to find peace and joy.
2 Nephi 26:23-28
23 For behold, my beloved brethren, I say unto you that the Lord God worketh not in darkness.
24 He doeth not anything save it be for the benefit of the world; for he loveth the world, even that he layeth down his own life that he may draw all men unto him. Wherefore, he commandeth none that they shall not partake of his salvation.
25 Behold, doth he cry unto any, saying: Depart from me? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; but he saith: Come unto me all ye ends of the earth, buy milk and honey, without money and without price.
26 Behold, hath he commanded any that they should depart out of the synagogues, or out of the houses of worship? Behold, I say unto you, Nay.
27 Hath he commanded any that they should not partake of his salvation? Behold I say unto you, Nay; but he hath given it free for all men; and he hath commanded his people that they should persuade all men to repentance.
28 Behold, hath the Lord commanded any that they should not partake of his goodness? Behold I say unto you, Nay; but all men are privileged the one like unto the other, and none are forbidden.
¡Os amo!
