Letter #33 - Week 35: I Guess I Just Have That Country Bumpkin Vibe, Maybe It's The Food In My Hair
May 20, 2019
Hola Everyone!
This week was a week of miracles! It was our best proselytizing week of the transfer, and we met such a sweet soul. Her name is Mirella, and she is dating a member of the YSA ward. We decided to look her up a couple of weeks back, and she wasn't home. I apparently called her, but I only kind of remember it and obviously forgot about it. We then went to look her up again and she turned out to be one of the coolest people ever! On our first real lesson she looked at a calendar and decided that June 15th was a good day to be baptized. We couldn't agree more! She is so prepared to start living more fully the Gospel of Jesus Christ in her life. It is going to bless her so much, so stay tuned.
We saw lots of huge miracles with little José this week. I now have a greater testimony that through the small efforts of many that Heavenly Father works His greatest miracles. As we put our best foot forward in faith, God will make much more of our efforts than we could ever imagine. If all goes well, we'll have the newest member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in our hands very soon :)
Speaking of all of that- MEMBERS ARE MIRACLE WORKERS. It's almost not even fair, haha. We had FIVE people come to church this week- all thanks to members. One of the people who came told us early in the week and told us that she couldn't make it, but then a member asked she said she could and she came #whatevergetsyouthere I am so grateful to be in an area where the members are absolutely incredible, both in the family and YSA ward. It has been such a blessing to learn how to use members and follow the counsel of President in the perfect place. Members truly are the key.
Lots happened with hair this week. Hermana Jeppson really wanted to put egg and avacado in her hair because she heard that it made it more shiny, but she didn't' want to do it alone and talked me into joining her. I'm not sure if it really did make my hair more shiny, but I can tell you not to take a hot shower to wash it out. I was combing cooked egg whites out of my hair for a minute.
We had Stake Conference for the family ward yesterday out in New York, which was an excellent meeting, but unfortunately we had to miss the YSA ward. Luckily there was just enough time to get back to Stamford for the YSA linger longer and say hi to all the members and the people that we're teaching who came. As summer has hit, the ward is gaining a lot of guys coming in for summer sales. One of these bros was trying to decide where we were from based on our hair, apparently. He looked at Hermana Jeppson and immediately said California (She's from Salt Lake) and then he looked at me for a minute and said, "Montana". MONTANA? Throw back from when that Jewish lady in Queens asked me if I was from Iowa. I guess I really just do have that country bumpkin vibe, and I just don't really know what to do about it.
Fun Fact: My 8 month mark came and went on Saturday and I didn't even stop to appreciate it. In less than a month I'll be 20 and halfway through my mission. It feels as though I've been here forever, yet it's all gone by so quickly. It's crazy to think that a year ago I was just happily bowling away in Provo taking it easy for the summer. If you would have told me that I would be on the East Coast a year from then, I wouldn't have believed you. How much greater are God's plans for me than my own.
2 Nephi 10:16-19
16 Wherefore, he that fighteth against Zion, both Jew and Gentile, both bond and free, both male and female, shall perish; for they are they who are the whore of all the earth; for they who are not for me are against me, saith our God.
17 For I will fulfil my promises which I have made unto the children of men, that I will do unto them while they are in the flesh—
18 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, thus saith our God: I will afflict thy seed by the hand of the Gentiles; nevertheless, I will soften the hearts of the Gentiles, that they shall be like unto a father to them; wherefore, the Gentiles shall be blessed and numbered among the house of Israel.
19 Wherefore, I will consecrate this land unto thy seed, and them who shall be numbered among thy seed, forever, for the land of their inheritance; for it is a choice land, saith God unto me, above all other lands, wherefore I will have all men that dwell thereon that they shall worship me, saith God.
¡Os amo!
