Letter #66 - Week 69: Winter of '69 (Degrees Fahrenheit)

January 13, 2020

Hola Everyone!

Events of the week:
-Zone Conference
-Exchanges with Sister Zornes
-Ward Conference
-Crazy awesome progrese with our people
-The finding famine continues

South Brooklyn hiked up to a balmy 67° F Sunday, January 12th with a pleasant breeze accompaning our Sunday afternoon walk home from church. Ive never experienced those harsh New England winters they always seem to talk about, but still bracing myself I guess.

Ward Conference had some wonderful spiritual insights. To our delight, the stake president did some leadership training about member missionary work coordination and it was lots of fun to be with them while they were learning.

Fun thing just happened. Hermana Haws and I were waiting for the bus coming home from shopping when Hermana Haws made eye contact with a lady holding a microphone and she asked to interview us asking us dental questions. It was low key awkward but fun #ifyoucanmakeitinnycyoucanmakeiyanywhere

This Zone Conference we went over a lot, including the new missionary standards. President talked about this decade was our decade of decision, not only our 20's but the 2020's. This part of our lives, in our missions is a time of reflection and where our momentum is going to take us. We also talked about helping those we teach and resolve their concerns and helping them to progress by setting a good vision and expectations.

Sister Zornes is amazing! She is a Haitian Creole speaking missionary serving in Midwood, Brooklyn right now. She'll be going home in a couple of weeks, so she is full of missionary wisdom. It was so fun to be with her in after Zone Conference and we got to talk about lots of good missionary things.

We didn't find anyone new to teach this week, making that two weeks in a row and keeping our grand total at 2 this transfer, but sometimes life be like that, you know? But, on the sunny side, all of the people we are teaching are progressing in beautiful ways.

1 Nephi 2:15-24

15 And my father dwelt in a tent.

16 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, being exceedingly young, nevertheless being large in stature, and also having great desires to know of the mysteries of God, wherefore, I did cry unto the Lord; and behold he did visit me, and did soften my heart that I did believe all the words which had been spoken by my father; wherefore, I did not rebel against him like unto my brothers.

17 And I spake unto Sam, making known unto him the things which the Lord had manifested unto me by his Holy Spirit. And it came to pass that he believed in my words.

18 But, behold, Laman and Lemuel would not hearken unto my words; and being grieved because of the hardness of their hearts I cried unto the Lord for them.

19 And it came to pass that the Lord spake unto me, saying: Blessed art thou, Nephi, because of thy faith, for thou hast sought me diligently, with lowliness of heart.

20 And inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper, and shall be led to a land of promise; yea, even a land which I have prepared for you; yea, a land which is choice above all other lands.

21 And inasmuch as thy brethren shall rebel against thee, they shall be cut off from the presence of the Lord.

22 And inasmuch as thou shalt keep my commandments, thou shalt be made a ruler and a teacher over thy brethren.

23 For behold, in that day that they shall rebel against me, I will curse them even with a sore curse, and they shall have no power over thy seed except they shall rebel against me also.

24 And if it so be that they rebel against me, they shall be a scourge unto thy seed, to stir them up in the ways of remembrance.

¡Os Amo!

-Hermana Prue
