Letter #23 - Week 25: It's Fun to Serve in the Y-S-A-Ward

March 11, 2019

Hola Everyone!

I made it to CT alright and it has been lots of change. It seriously feels like being in a different mission compared to the city. I have been learning a lot between new area, new companions, and bunches of new people. There used to be a set of English sisters and a set of Spanish sisters in this ward, with the English sisters also over the Young Single Adult ward. Apparently the Spanish sisters were supposed to be over the YSA as well, but no one knew! They traded out the English Sisters for Spanish Elders, so now the five of us are all over English, Spanish, and YSA in the area. It's going to be a wild ride because we're basically starting from scratch with English and YSA. I'm really excited to be serving with all of them.

Some differences between Queens and CT:
-I'm in a car. A really nice car. A 2019 car. It's a little different from public transit
-So many WHITE PEOPLE. Luckily we can teach those now
-Lots of wealth. It's weird to see such a huge difference only miles apart from each other
-It's a lot colder here than in the city. That's probably one of the biggest surprises
-Many of the Hispanics here are from Guatemala, which is nice because they have very clear accents

This week I restarted the Book of Mormon, and to study it I'm doing a variation of what my mission president invited all the missionaries to do before I came into the mission. I'm underlining in red all references to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ in red, the promises They make in blue, and the fulfillment of those promises in purple. I'm focusing on growing my faith and building a firm foundation. I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are aware of us personally in every circumstance. We are prepared for all trials we go through and They are guiding our paths.

"It may not be on a mountain height
Or over the stormy sea,
It may not be at the battle’s front
My Lord will have need of me.
But if, by a still, small voice he calls
To paths that I do not know,
I’ll answer, dear Lord, with my hand in thine: I’ll go where you want me to go"

Introduction to the Book of Mormon:

"Concerning this record the Prophet Joseph Smith said: 'I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book'...

We invite all men everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true. Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost. (See Moroni 10:3–5.)

Those who gain this divine witness from the Holy Spirit will also come to know by the same power that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, that Joseph Smith is His revelator and prophet in these last days, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord’s kingdom once again established on the earth, preparatory to the Second Coming of the Messiah."

¡Os amo!
