Letter #18 - Week 20: More Weeks on the Mission Than Years of My Life

February 4, 2019

Hola Everyone!

This week was jam-packed with Hermana Walker's fearless appointment-setting skills and desire to try all the food available in our area (including that from members). She was ahead of the game when it came to Zone Conference last Tuesday. It was on more effective finding and how we can better help people who are prepared to learn more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Elder Haynie of the seventy told us in November that "Scattered Israel hangs around gathered Israel", and it's important that we take the time to be aware who around us is prepared to learn more. Heavenly Father is directing His work and can help us to understand our part in the gathering of Israel. Also, President Teuscher used the acronym "More Effective Finding is DOPE" for Zone Conference so I feel justified in using my mission related hashtags.

Last Monday we helped donate the food that was gathered for the interfaith concert and we did a cute little photo op. We ate Chinese food and went to a Korean shop for a true welcome to our little corner of Queens.

After Zone Conference we had exchanges with the Sister Training Leaders. I went to their area with Hermana Robbins and had so much fun! She is new to the position after being Hermana Murphy's trainer. I learned a lot from her and from the others I was able to interact with during the exchange.

There were a lot of miracles in the work this week. We were able to commit many people to baptism and visit people that we've had a difficult time getting into contact with. Heavenly Father has given us so many tools to be successful and to help others be successful, and it's out job to try and figure out how to use those tools more efficiently and effectively.

Luckily Hermana Walker enjoys recording her adventures and there are plenty of pictures to send. She loves ice cream and we went to Baskin-Robbins on the 31st (which apparently is a thing) and celebrated her 9 month mark on Saturday with bubble tea. I never knew that there were so many things that you're able to celebrate. Probably the highlight of the food week was that our Branch's Mission Leader's wife made us PUPUSAS. Many of the Hispanics here are Salvadorian, but I had yet to have homemade pupusas, just ones that have been bought. They were as good as can be imagined.

I feel like I have never read 3 Nephi 19 before this week. It is super interesting.

3 Nephi 19:31-36

31 And it came to pass that he went again a little way off and prayed unto the Father;

32 And tongue cannot speak the words which he prayed, neither can be written by man the words which he prayed.

33 And the multitude did hear and do bear record; and their hearts were open and they did understand in their hearts the words which he prayed.

34 Nevertheless, so great and marvelous were the words which he prayed that they cannot be written, neither can they be uttered by man.

35 And it came to pass that when Jesus had made an end of praying he came again to the disciples, and said unto them: So great faith have I never seen among all the Jews; wherefore I could not show unto them so great miracles, because of their unbelief.

36 Verily I say unto you, there are none of them that have seen so great things as ye have seen; neither have they heard so great things as ye have heard.

¡Les amo!
