Letter #12 - Week 14: I Literally Just Copied and Pasted Hermana Jensen's Weekly
December 24, 2018
Hola everyone and Merry Christmas!!
This week was awesome! We saw so many miracles and we were able to do lots of service 😊
Most exciting moments of the week:
- ZONE CONFERENCE. I'm not sure I can describe how amazingly life changing it was, but I will try to tell you all a bit about it! First of all, it is just so amazing to go to a meeting like that and to look around at 75 or so other 18, 19, and 20 year olds that are also dedicating their lives to the Lord for 1.5-2 years. The Spirit confirms to me every time that what we are doing is truly the Lord's work! We are gathering scattered Israel one street contact, smile, or tarjeta at a time.
This zone conference was a little different from others because it was all about Christmas. President Teuscher shared a message about the Premortal Christ and His premortal glory. I wish you all could have been there to hear it. I won't even try to describe the message, because it was so special. I almost felt like I was in the temple because the spirit was so strong. Nothing brings the spirit more than testifying of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Then we were treated to a great Christmas lunch from the senior couples here in the mission. They also gave us all little gifts. One of the gifts was a Christmas card from the Tesuchers! The card is this huge holdout paper with a picture of their family and then pictures of all of us missionaries! It is so special 😊
- we also had exchanges this week. I went out to Mineola which is right next to my old area, Westbury. I had some major deja vue (idk how to spell that...) moments as we drove on some of the same roads I used to drive on! It was a very different exchange because our mission is trying out Facebook finding. Basically they are running ads on Facebook that people can click on to chat with missionaries in their area. So far only the missionary leaders are doing it, but I got to help with it on exchanges. It was fun but also weird because we just stayed inside all day and responded to messages. Our mission is the first to do it and the missionary department in Salt Lake thinks it so so cool and they want to roll out the program to other missions as well :)
- on Thursday night we video called Brian and Fabiola and it was so good! Fabiola started reading the Book of Mormon and she is so much happier now! She said she has felt a lot more peace since she started reading it. 😊 That's the power of the scriptures, and especially the Book of Mormon. We also went by on Saturday to watch the Restoration movie with them. But they were very late getting home so we just went in and talked to her daughter and son in law for awhile and taught them the restoration. They weren't super interested but they definitely felt the spirit and one day they will be ready! Then yesterday they came to church and Fabiola sang in the choir with us! We usually don't call them on Sunday nights since we see them on those days, but Brian was like, hey you're gonna call tonight, right? So we did. Then during that call he was like, you're gonna call tomorrow right? But Fabiola said, oh Brian tomorrow is Christmas! But he was like that's okay! They can still call right? Ohmygoodness he is so cute! He loves reading the kids Book of Mormon and coming to church. We are so excited for them!
- Saturday was crazy busy. We went to a members for breakfast (which turned out to be a huge party with like 7 different single ladies and their families) and then we went out and gave ornaments and chocolate covered pretzels to less actives, people we teach, and other people we met on the street. It was freezing outside but it was so fun! Then we ran back home and ate an early dinner so we could head out and give out more gifts before our lesson with Brian and Fabiola. But. Then the office elders called and needed an extra bed we had in our apartment so we ran back home to let them in (and to hurriedly clean a little before they did 😅). Then we headed out again. We were a little stressed because we didn't think we would be able to get to visit eveyone before brian and fabiola, but the Lord provides because they were late so we got to visit everyone! It was so fun and so exhausting! 😊
- Yesterday Jacquelin, who is 12, came to church! She was really bored...😅 but that's okay! Next time we will help her have a better time.
- today we are going to go gift wrap at the mall for some service! Fun times except that my wrapping skills are atrocious (just ask anyone in my family hahaha)
- I GET TO TALK TO MY FAMILY TOMORROW!!! 2nd Best Christmas gift ever (after Christ himself 😊)
Wow alright I just wrote a ton. Basically the mission life is the hardest and the best, especially at Christmas time. But there's definitely no place I'd rather be than right here in Flushing, NY.
This week is the last week for the Light the World campaign! It's the Light Your Faith week. One thing we have been asking people here is what they are going to give to Christ this Christmas. (They usually respond with a blank or confused look, but eventually they think of something hahaha.) Let's all pray to know what the Lord would have us give this year to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It could be more time studying the scriptures, more dedication in our callings at church, more personal prayer, more willing service, etc. Let's light the world 🎄😊
