Letter #7 - Week 9- My Favorite Forms of Exercise Include Old Chinese People and Dreaming of a White Thanksgiving

November 19. 2018

Hola Everyone!

Missionary life brings a multiplicity of changes, including language, culture, and lifestyle. Aside from the obvious differences, I think I've eaten more vegetables, run harder and faster, and talked to more people than I ever have in my life thanks to Hermana Jensen. Luckily, sometimes she has mercy on my soul when it comes to exercise, and we get to go to the parks where we can go at our own paces. There are some old Chinese ladies that do these same two exercise videos every morning. They don't speak English, but they are always so kind in letting us into their circle. Maybe my favorite part is the C-Pop Christmas music in the background. It's a nice change every once in a while from running until I can't run anymore.

New York City had it's first snow of the season on Thursday, and it did not play around. It was projected to be just an inch of snow in the evening, but it turned out to be more like a storm that started around lunch time. That night we even got stuck in a neighboring city because the buses stopped running, but luckily some members were kind enough to save us from the wet and cold.

I had a new missionary meeting on Friday just talking out some logistical aspects of the mission. I always enjoy getting to go on the subway for these and seeing more of the city. Sometimes I forget that I'm in New York until I see the Manhattan skyline again.

We went to a Chinese market for groceries last week, and I was incredibly happy to find some Idaho potatoes from Shelley. It's the closest I've been home in months.

Last night we had dinner with some other missionaries, the branch mission leader and his wife, and someone who is getting baptized on December 1! We were explaining that we went to the MTC in Mexico to learn Spanish, and one of the Elders said that his niece thought that you died when you went to Mexico. I decided that it was true since I went to Mexico and my family hasn't seen me since.

Mosiah 23:20-22
20 And it came to pass that they did multiply and prosper exceedingly in the land of Helam; and they built a city, which they called the city of Helam.

21 Nevertheless the Lord seeth fit to chasten his people; yea, he trieth their patience and their faith.

22 Nevertheless—whosoever putteth his trust in him the same shall be lifted up at the last day. Yea, and thus it was with this people.

Love,

Hermana Prue
