Letter #21 - Week 23: I Still Can't Eat and Understand Spanish at the Same Time

Image
February 25, 2019 Hola Everyone! Brian, one of the kiddos we're teaching, finished the children's Book of Mormon on Friday! He loves chocolate chip cookies, so we made him some and he's going to start to read the real Book of Mormon! Another man that we gave a chapel tour a couple weeks back is already to 1 Nephi 7 (after he read the introduction and all of the testimonies). We're really excited for him. My Spanish is getting better every day, but I still notice that when I start eating I stop paying attention. It usually doesn't matter, but I'm worried that it will one of these times. I still haven't mastered the skills of dinner-pleasing the members, so I ended up eating about four helpings of pasta for lunch yesterday. Ether 3:6-13 6 And it came to pass that when the brother of Jared had said these words, behold, the Lord stretched forth his hand and touched the stones one by one with his finger. And the veil was taken from off the eyes of ...

It's like Mother's Day came early!

Letter #20 - Week 22: I Don't Know About You, But I'm Feeling 22-2-2/2

February 18, 2019 Church. Prayer. Reading. Commandments. Long ago, the two Melchizedek Priesthood quorms lived separately in harmony, but everything changed when President Nelson became prophet. Only the Holy Ghost, master of the convincing power, could mesh together these two quorms together. But when the world thought no more could be done, there was. Six months passed and President Nelson revealed more revelation, a program called ministering. The saints are adjusting great, but the church has a lot to do before it's ready to usher in the Second Coming. But I believe that Jesus Christ will continue to change the world. Hola Everyone! The missionaries of New York City were having as peaceful of a week possible when an Elder posted in the Mission Chat early Friday afternoon. Get wrecked. Everyone lost their minds and two mission-wide phone calls, an email to parents, and messages of clarification later, we've finally made it to the big day. Turns out that fam...

Letter #19 - Week 21: You Know that One Part In Fiddler On the Roof Where it Shows the Cathedral? Imagine that Except for Three Sister Missionaries

February 11, 2019 Hola Everyone! This week a lot of miracles happened, we continued to try lots of food, and I held a lot of dogs. Fun Fact: 3 of my 5 companions so far have had their dad's serve their mission in Japan. It still took a long time to get through the Asian snacks and have then choose what they wanted. The Food Week: Combined we got Japanese filled marshmallows (strawberry and chocolate), strawberry pocky, and sweet potato chocolate biscuit mushroom things. The sweet potato things were actually really good, but the reason that Hermana Walker got them was because she thought they were taro flavored. We got pan con queso at a Columbiam bakery, drank more panela at a returning member's home. I had MEAT AND POTATOES at another Colombian member's home that was really good and an Ecuadorian lentil concoction that wasn't half bad. Last Monday we went and got Chinese food and I got wonton soup. It was all fine and good until I got a close...

Letter #18 - Week 20: More Weeks on the Mission Than Years of My Life

February 4, 2019 Hola Everyone! This week was jam-packed with Hermana Walker's fearless appointment-setting skills and desire to try all the food available in our area (including that from members). She was ahead of the game when it came to Zone Conference last Tuesday. It was on more effective finding and how we can better help people who are prepared to learn more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Elder Haynie of the seventy told us in November that "Scattered Israel hangs around gathered Israel", and it's important that we take the time to be aware who around us is prepared to learn more. Heavenly Father is directing His work and can help us to understand our part in the gathering of Israel. Also, President Teuscher used the acronym "More Effective Finding is DOPE" for Zone Conference so I feel justified in using my mission related hashtags. Last Monday we helped donate the food that was gathered for the interfaith concert and w...
