Letter #19 - Week 21: You Know that One Part In Fiddler On the Roof Where it Shows the Cathedral? Imagine that Except for Three Sister Missionaries

February 11, 2019

Hola Everyone!

This week a lot of miracles happened, we continued to try lots of food, and I held a lot of dogs.

Fun Fact: 3 of my 5 companions so far have had their dad's serve their mission in Japan. It still took a long time to get through the Asian snacks and have then choose what they wanted.

The Food Week: Combined we got Japanese filled marshmallows (strawberry and chocolate), strawberry pocky, and sweet potato chocolate biscuit mushroom things. The sweet potato things were actually really good, but the reason that Hermana Walker got them was because she thought they were taro flavored. We got pan con queso at a Columbiam bakery, drank more panela at a returning member's home. I had MEAT AND POTATOES at another Colombian member's home that was really good and an Ecuadorian lentil concoction that wasn't half bad. Last Monday we went and got Chinese food and I got wonton soup. It was all fine and good until I got a closer look and THERE WERE LITTLE SHRIMP THINGS WITH THEIR LITTLE EYES AND LEGS STILL IN TACT. I was scarred. I ate the wontons because I always give Hermana Walker a hard time about wasting food, but it was awful.

We had a lot of activities this week, and that's always fun to watch little branches do their best. We went to the south of our area to do weekly planning, and everyone is Jewish there. The only thing that wasn't Kosher was Hermana Walker's sandwich. The library was super PC though, so all is still stereotypical in New York.

The miracles we saw this week were a little more sensitive, but I can tell you that we taught the restoration with doughnuts, our people who came to sacrament meeting went from 0 to 3 real fast, and I cried a lot with the spirit and happiness. I know that President Nelson is God's prophet on the Earth today and that he directs the church based on revelation and the will of Jesus Christ and the Father. I also know that he is human and must rely on the Savior as much as any other person.

3 Nephi 27:7-10

7 Therefore, whatsoever ye shall do, ye shall do it in my name; therefore ye shall call the church in my name; and ye shall call upon the Father in my name that he will bless the church for my sake.

8 And how be it my church save it be called in my name? For if a church be called in Moses’ name then it be Moses’ church; or if it be called in the name of a man then it be the church of a man; but if it be called in my name then it is my church, if it so be that they are built upon my gospel.

9 Verily I say unto you, that ye are built upon my gospel; therefore ye shall call whatsoever things ye do call, in my name; therefore if ye call upon the Father, for the church, if it be in my name the Father will hear you;

10 And if it so be that the church is built upon my gospel then will the Father show forth his own works in it.

Doctrine and Covenants 6:32–36

“Even so am I in the midst of you. … Therefore, fear not, little flock; do good; let earth and hell combine against you, for if ye are built upon my rock, they cannot prevail. Behold, I do not condemn you. … Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.”

¡Les amo!
