Letter #71 - Week 74: Whoops For Winter 2020
February 17, 2020
Luckily South Brooklyn's performance of 'Mountains to Climb' at Zone Conference went better than expected, it was lots of fun! We focused on the Plan of Salvation. I feel like it helped me focus on the things that matter most, not only in missionary work, but in life as well.
We had two exchanges this week, one with the Staten Island Hermanas (Hermana Van Woerkom and Hermana Crow) and the Brooklyn YSA Sisters (Sister McClara and Sister Scott). I got to be with Hermana Van Woerkom, which was super tender because this time last year we were companions. It was so much fun to share our experiences and see how much we have learned and grown. One fun thing that happened as well, we ate dinner at the house of someone we taught in Flushing together's great grandma! So that was kind of crazy, but it was also perfect. Sister McClara is straight fire, she's training out of training and just has so much love and energy for the work.
We were getting to the apartment just on time Tuesday night, and I must have had a little too much gusto trying to be exactly obedient, because I tripped up the stairs and got some scrapes and bruises. I mourned on the steps for a minute, but then I realized we still weren't in the apartment, but when we got inside it was still 9:30 pm on the dot, so that's how I know God lives and is always looking after His children.
I did this fun exercise in Alma 26 about what we as missionaries do in missionary work, what God does, and the blessings that people recieve because of the sacrifices of both parties. It was interesting to see how God multiplies our small efforts and does the heavy lifting to bless the lives of His children, but He still lets us play that small part in it all.
Alma 26:12-16
12 Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever.
13 Behold, how many thousands of our brethren has he loosed from the pains of hell; and they are brought to sing redeeming love, and this because of the power of his word which is in us, therefore have we not great reason to rejoice?
14 Yea, we have reason to praise him forever, for he is the Most High God, and has loosed our brethren from the chains of hell.
15 Yea, they were encircled about with everlasting darkness and destruction; but behold, he has brought them into his everlasting light, yea, into everlasting salvation; and they are encircled about with the matchless bounty of his love; yea, and we have been instruments in his hands of doing this great and marvelous work.
16 Therefore, let us glory, yea, we will glory in the Lord; yea, we will rejoice, for our joy is full; yea, we will praise our God forever. Behold, who can glory too much in the Lord? Yea, who can say too much of his great power, and of his mercy, and of his long-suffering towards the children of men? Behold, I say unto you, I cannot say the smallest part which I feel.
¡Os Amo!
