Letter # 63 - Week 65: It's Like That One Scene In Avengers Except It's My Mission

December 16, 2019

Hola Everyone!

This week I received the news that I will be going to Brooklyn with Hermana Haws! We served in the same district while we were up in Connecticut, and I wouldn't have chosen anyone else to be my companion at this time. Hermana Connolly will actually be receiving Hermana Haws companion from Brooklyn, Hermana Hamilton. We also served in the same district up in Connecticut, and they will do great things up here in New Rochelle. Elder Wu is going to be the new Assistant to the President with Elder Palmer, while Elder Navarro will be going to Brooklyn serving in the same ward as me! Elder Homer will be going to the Bronx, and Elder Meyer will be receiving Elder Takatori as an Office Elder.

This week was the baptism of Anna. She was so happy and it was great to be there with her. The Stamford Elders taught her almost all of the lessons, so all we did was help her get ready for her baptism. Due to some miscommunication, I got to go diving into cold, dirty water to unplug the baptismal font before cleaning it with a swiffer mop. 10/10 reccomend to a friend cleaning the font with a swiffer mop though.

We had out Ward Christmas party right after the baptism on Saturday. It was combined with the English ward. Earlier in the week we wrapped presents for all of the primary kids. We were certain to get our picture with Santa as well. It was a great success, and lots of the people we teach and recent converts came as well.

At the begining of the transfer to make 500 cookies by the end of the transfer. We kept up pretty well at the begining, but then it kind of went downhill from there. I maked and baked cookies for hours today, so that was kind of fun also.

2 Nephi 2:25

25 Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy.

"My dear brothers and sisters, I have prayed for the power to help you in your personal search for happiness. Some might feel happy enough already, yet surely no one would reject the offer of more happiness. Anyone would be eager to accept a guaranteed offer of lasting happiness.

That is what Heavenly Father; His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ; and the Holy Ghost have offered every spirit child of Heavenly Father who now lives, will live, or ever has lived in this world. That offer is sometimes called the plan of happiness. It was so called by the prophet Alma as he taught his son, who was mired in the misery of sin. Alma knew that wickedness could never be happiness for his son—or for any child of Heavenly Father.

He taught his son that increasing in holiness was the only path to happiness. He made it plain that greater holiness is made possible through the Atonement of Jesus Christ cleansing and perfecting us. Only by faith in Jesus Christ, continuing repentance, and keeping covenants are we able to claim the lasting happiness we all yearn to experience and retain.

My prayer for today is that I may help you understand that greater happiness comes from greater personal holiness so that you will act upon that belief. I will then share what I know for myself about what we can do to qualify for that gift of becoming ever more holy."

Holiness and the Plan of Happiness, Henry B Eyring (Oct 2019)
