Letter #68 - Week 71: The Day of Miracles Has Not Ceased

Image
January 27, 2020 Hola Everyone! The most important part of this week is that Pedro got baptized! It was incredible to see all the changes he made in order to be baptized and how God lead him to this point. The ward was absolutely wonderful as well, so many people came to support him and his first step. The young men condesended to getting filmed to make a cute video welcoming Pedro to the ward and sharing their testimonies. Hermana Haws and I matched for the baptism, and then the next day at church we decided that we were just going to switch outfits, down to the way that we did our hair. We thought that we were deeply hilarious and pleased with the results that came with it. One of my dreams was realized on Thursday when we went to a meeting in North Brooklyn late at night. President Teuscher was there, and he ended up taking us home in his Tesla. On the way to the meeting though I stubbed my toe, and it hurt a lot, but I didn't think too much about it. When I...

January 20, 2020 Hola Everyone! Breaking News: After 19 days, the Brooklyn Hermanas finding famine finally finished with Rony. Finding Rony was a beautiful mistake. He got our number from a coworker who told him about English Class. We had also gotten a referral request for a Book of Mormon, and I got them mixed up and asked Rony if he wanted to do a video call. He agreed and we told him about what we do as missionaries and he said he would like to grow his relationship with God and learn more. Spanish Vocab Word of the Week: concuño The word for a brother/sister-in-law's brother or sister or spouse We were having ward correlation and our Ward Mission Leader is learning English and so he was asking us what concuño was in English. None of us knew what it was, so he illustrated it this way: "*serious, straight face* So if we were married *referring to Hermana Haws and himself, whose wife recently had a baby* and they were married *referring to me and Elder Rasm...

January 13, 2020 Hola Everyone! Events of the week: -Zone Conference -Exchanges with Sister Zornes -Ward Conference -Crazy awesome progrese with our people -The finding famine continues South Brooklyn hiked up to a balmy 67° F Sunday, January 12th with a pleasant breeze accompaning our Sunday afternoon walk home from church. Ive never experienced those harsh New England winters they always seem to talk about, but still bracing myself I guess. Ward Conference had some wonderful spiritual insights. To our delight, the stake president did some leadership training about member missionary work coordination and it was lots of fun to be with them while they were learning. Fun thing just happened. Hermana Haws and I were waiting for the bus coming home from shopping when Hermana Haws made eye contact with a lady holding a microphone and she asked to interview us asking us dental questions. It was low key awkward but fun #ifyoucanmakeitinnycyoucanmakeiyanywhere This ...

Letter # 65 - Week 68: He Was Like A Son To Me

January 6, 2020 Hola Everyone! This week in bullet points: -Went to a missionary meeting, got inspired to live to my full potential -Threw up shortly after and then slept for 15 hours -Sorry about this, it's kind of lame, here's Hermana Haws weekly: "Wowee this week was a'poppin. Here's the scoop: I caught a bug, which was bad enough to be super uncomfy but chill enough that I didn't need to stay indoors, so Tues-Thurs I das poppin my vitamin C and D, drinking peppermint tea, and scratching my nose off with 1 Ply toilet paper. Right as I was starting to feel better my comp got sick too!! But hers was more of the stomach-rejecting-food type, so we stayed in Thurs night and Friday until 5pm. There is this moral dilemma that missionaries with sick companions face, and it is how to use time effectively whilst your second half is recuperating. We have a 2 room apartment, as in there is a bedroom and then one other room that embodies all other functions of th...

Letter #64 - Week 64: Alex's Awesome Adventure

December 9, 2019 Hola Everyone! This week was great because it was Christmas! On Christmas Eve we had a musical Christmas devotional with half of the mission. Later we had some dinner with various members. As for actual Christmas we ate candy, did service, talked with our families, did our studies, and had district council. I had exchanges with Hermana Rios in Inwood (Northern Manhattan) and it was amazing! I learned so much from her and it was good day. We saw a cool miracle yesterday! We were doing our studies and a member called and told us there was a woman who just walked into the church who was interested in meeting with us. She was walking around near the church looking for a place to live near her job, and felt that she needed to go to a church. She started looking for a church, stopping people and asking if they knew a church anywhere near. Someone finally pointed out the church to her, and the doors just happened to be unlocked still. There were a couple of lingering ...

Letter # 63 - Week 65: It's Like That One Scene In Avengers Except It's My Mission

December 16, 2019 Hola Everyone! This week I received the news that I will be going to Brooklyn with Hermana Haws! We served in the same district while we were up in Connecticut, and I wouldn't have chosen anyone else to be my companion at this time. Hermana Connolly will actually be receiving Hermana Haws companion from Brooklyn, Hermana Hamilton. We also served in the same district up in Connecticut, and they will do great things up here in New Rochelle. Elder Wu is going to be the new Assistant to the President with Elder Palmer, while Elder Navarro will be going to Brooklyn serving in the same ward as me! Elder Homer will be going to the Bronx, and Elder Meyer will be receiving Elder Takatori as an Office Elder. This week was the baptism of Anna. She was so happy and it was great to be there with her. The Stamford Elders taught her almost all of the lessons, so all we did was help her get ready for her baptism. Due to some miscommunication, I got to go divi...
