Letter #62 - Week 64: Alex's Awesome Adventure
December 9, 2019
Hola Everyone!
The highlight of the week was definitely Alex getting baptized and confirmed this weekend. It has been such a blessing to be a part of this part of her journey. She's been golden from the very start and honestly she's taught us more than we've taught her. She is dedicated in all that she does, intelligent, loving, capable and she will definitely be a tool in building the kingdom of God. She is working on gathering her family on both sides of the veil and will bring many to a knowledge of their Redeemer.
We had interviews with President yesterday. We'll, at least I did. President has a habit of getting behind on his interview schedule, and he had to leave to speak a devotional in Long Island, so we'll have the blessing of seeing President again soon to do Hermana Connolly's interview. I just love having interviews with him because he makes me feel like I can take on the world.
There was a crazy turn of events Wednesday. Let's start with Hermana Connolly and my first couple weeks together in New Rochelle. Week 56. We helped a less active member move and set up her exercise bike in the new apartment. In the constant back and forth of originally looking up the member, rescheduling appointments a couple of times, and moving, we meet and became friends with a very friendly Columbian man. We don't really go back after that, and we don't get into contact with the Colombian man. Back to Wednesday. We walked to an appointment that we were supposed to have at 10:30 am on Main Street. We were running a little late, but we get to the appointment and it turns out that something came up and the woman couldn't keep the appointment. We've had this goal to try a new food place that wasn't pizza for a couple of weeks now, but we haven't really wanted to try anything but pizza, so we haven't tried anything new. On the way to the appointment, we see a pizza place we want to try, and decide we're going to forget our goal and get pizza anyway. The shop didn't open until 11, so we just did some daily contact while waiting for it to open. We get our pizza, and start on our way home. It was pretty cold and windy so we went to go around the backside of our building to get inside faster. Because we went through the back, we walked past the big windows of the Salvadoreño restaurant that we get pupusas at. There's a bar by the window, so people can sit there, eat, and look out. Walking by we see the Columbian man sitting at the bar. I recognized him and waved, but I couldn't remember quite who he was. Hermana Connolly did and we sat there debating whether to go back and talk with him or not. We ended up running home, dropping off the pizza, and running back to have pupusas for lunch instead. We got to eat with him and we had a good conversation with him. We will be visiting him this week and we're hopful to see where it goes.
We've been trying to use technology more for our daily missionary efforts, and that's been lots of fun. It seems to be hit and miss for the people it works for, but the people it works for it seems to really well. I think that it's important that we try to utilize all that we've been given in order to be the best missionaries that we can be.
Alma 15:3-12
3 And also Zeezrom lay sick at Sidom, with a burning fever, which was caused by the great tribulations of his mind on account of his wickedness, for he supposed that Alma and Amulek were no more; and he supposed that they had been slain because of his iniquity. And this great sin, and his many other sins, did harrow up his mind until it did become exceedingly sore, having no deliverance; therefore he began to be scorched with a burning heat.
4 Now, when he heard that Alma and Amulek were in the land of Sidom, his heart began to take courage; and he sent a message immediately unto them, desiring them to come unto him.
5 And it came to pass that they went immediately, obeying the message which he had sent unto them; and they went in unto the house unto Zeezrom; and they found him upon his bed, sick, being very low with a burning fever; and his mind also was exceedingly sore because of his iniquities; and when he saw them he stretched forth his hand, and besought them that they would heal him.
6 And it came to pass that Alma said unto him, taking him by the hand: Believest thou in the power of Christ unto salvation?
7 And he answered and said: Yea, I believe all the words that thou hast taught.
8 And Alma said: If thou believest in the redemption of Christ thou canst be healed.
9 And he said: Yea, I believe according to thy words.
10 And then Alma cried unto the Lord, saying: O Lord our God, have mercy on this man, and heal him according to his faith which is in Christ.
11 And when Alma had said these words, Zeezrom leaped upon his feet, and began to walk; and this was done to the great astonishment of all the people; and the knowledge of this went forth throughout all the land of Sidom.
12 And Alma baptized Zeezrom unto the Lord; and he began from that time forth to preach unto the people.
¡Os Amo!
-Hermana Prue
