Letter #53 - I've Never Used The Metric System Outside Of Math So Much In My Entire Life
October 7, 2017
Hermana Connolly and I have been having the grandest adventures this week discovering New Rochelle. York and Rochelle aren't the only new things around here. Hermana Connolly is from New Zealand! She has been keeping my math brain in shape as I convert pounds to kilos and Fahrenheit to Celsius. We haven't quite gotten to meters, but today when going grocery shopping we discovered that a gallon of milk is about 3.78 liters. I've been trying to keep up with all of her kiwi slang, and these are some of the favorite things I've gotten to say this week:
"You can probably probably just chuck that into the rubbish"
"Do you make your milo with milk or water"
"Hermana, it went from like 32 to 17 overnight"
"I want to take the football out of the boot, but someone might want it later"
Favorite Expression of the Week:
-Being gutted
Other exciting developments from half blinding in:
-They forgot to bring us a car to transfers, so we took a good chunk of time observing the world around us and enjoyed the sunny day in Queens while they decided what to do with us
-Once we did have a car, it took a really long time to find the parking garage, and we even got into the wrong one and couldn't get out #whoops
-Our car lives on the fifth floor, so we get to do fun spirals every time we leave or some into the apartment
-We live on the seventh floor of a thirty-eight floor building, which is the highest I've ever lived in the highest building by Fath that I've ever lived in
-We are in a district with the assistants to the President and the Office Elders, which makes for an interesting dynamic
General Conference brought a lot of excitement and strength! We were able to get four people to watch conference, and they all had excellent experiences. We got the chapel to ourselves for two sessions and so we took advantage of the opportunity and took photos.
The Book of Mormon videos have kept up to my hopes and dreams, so I'm happy with that going on.
Our people our doing well, lots of them are making and keeping commitments which is going to help them to make and keep covenants!
Hermana Connolly appears to be much better at taking photos than me, so hopefully you'll be seeing more of me this upcoming transfer.
Mosiah 18:7-11
7 And it came to pass after many days there were a goodly number gathered together at the place of Mormon, to hear the words of Alma. Yea, all were gathered together that believed on his word, to hear him. And he did teach them, and did preach unto them repentance, and redemption, and faith on the Lord.
8 And it came to pass that he said unto them: Behold, here are the waters of Mormon (for thus were they called) and now, as ye are desirous to come into the fold of God, and to be called his people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light;
9 Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life—
10 Now I say unto you, if this be the desire of your hearts, what have you against being baptized in the name of the Lord, as a witness before him that ye have entered into a covenant with him, that ye will serve him and keep his commandments, that he may pour out his Spirit more abundantly upon you?
11 And now when the people had heard these words, they clapped their hands for joy, and exclaimed: This is the desire of our hearts.
¡Os Amo!
-Hermana Prue
