Letter #46 - Week 48: Quad Squad ft. Round 2

Image
August 19, 2019 Hola Everyone! Tomorrow I will be heading to Yonkers, New York to be reunited with my MTC companion Hermana Gonzalez! Sister Patchell will be training a brand new missionary here in Stamford. Hermana Murphy will be staying to train a new missionary as well and will be sending Hermana Hamilton to Brooklyn. Elder Masopeh will also be training a new missionary, and Elder Perkins will be reopening the Jamaica Spanish area in Queens. With Elder Ginez having a jump start on training Elder Pauni, every single companionship in our district will be training. We also got to have Sister Meyer join our companionship for the last part of the transfer, so I am officially in my fourth Trio. With us being companions for almost a week last transfer, it really just makes sense. The mission tour was excellent as expected. Hermana Patchell and Murphy did amazing at their workshop. I love Elder Bennett, and Elder Johnson was wonderful as well. Hermana Hamilton's and my le...

Letter #45 - Week 47: I'm Going To Be Away From My Companion For How Long?

Image
August 12, 2019 Hola Everyone! This week we have Elder Bennett and Elder Johnson visiting our mission! It is going to be in Manhattan, so that'll be a crazy adventure no matter what. The biggest curve ball came speeding towards us when President Teuscher called on Thursday morning to ask Hermana Patchell and Hermana Murphy to do a workshop for the mission tour. Between that and the leadership meeting they're attending, they will be in and staying in Manhattan for three days. If one of them also gets assigned to train the next transfer, they might stay another night and travel to Queens the next day. In the meantime, Hermana Hamilton and I will be bouncing around Stamford and Darien trying to keep both of our areas afloat. Last Tuesday we had a family history training and it was very inspiring. We're working with Annabelle on family history and it has been so much fun to start at the very beginning with her. We're working on helping her get to the temple w...

Letter #44 - Week 46: Skidding For Summer 2k19 ft The Amazing Annabelle

Image
August 5, 2019 Hola Everyone! The highlight for this weekend was definately Annabelle getting baptized and confirmed this weekend. You could feel the Spirit so strongly during the baptismal service and during the ordinances. She has come so far in these past couple of months that we've been meeting with her, and we're all excited to see where she's going to go moving forward. We go running every morning for exercise and life decided to spice things up for me and I tripped and skidded just a little bit on the sidewalk. It wasn't as bad as the infamous #fallingforfall2k18 trip, and I didn't get a fresh battle wound shot, but it still left its mark. The mark on my elbow kind of looks like Long Island, so that's my newest conspiracy theory of where I'm going #takemetowestbury Speaking of which, during interviews on Tuesday, President basically sat me down and asked me how I was feeling about getting ready to leave Stamford. Today marks my five-month ma...

Letter #43 - Week 45: The Calm Before the Storm

July 29, 2019 Hola Everyone! Week 3 of the transfer was the scheduled to be the least crazy of the 6th, and now going into week 4 we're preparing ourselves for the next three weeks to simply fly by even fast than these. This week we have interviews with President Teuscher, an exchange, a mission leadership conference (aka exchange 2.0), and Annabelle's baptism! She was interviewed for baptism yesterday and is super excited to start her journey as part of the one true church! Yesterday right before Annabelle's interview we found out that Elder Sutherland will be transfered early to open up an area in the Bronx. Elder Ginez will be training a new missionary who is coming three weeks early because he was in the 6 week Spanish program, but then was bumped up to the three week program. As for the Bronx, my former companion Sister Walker and her current companion were trying to wrangle 60 (last time I talked to her) people they were teaching from combining pools this tr...

Letter #42 - Week 44: Brightly Beams Our Father's Mercy

Image
July 22, 2019 Hola Everyone! This week has been HOT. There's nothing quite like knocking on a single street for two hours looking for a less active member's home and having sweat drip down your leg while you're showing videos to Hispanic men who are really only interested in talking to your blonde, beautiful companion. And then two days later having a struggle of whether you should get a panini or avocado toast. Basically half the time I feel like I'm living in a really fancy third world country and the other half I feel like if people knew that I ate anything off-brand or non-organic in my life I would be publicly shunned. I started reading the New Testament, focusing in the life of Jesus Christ and His integrity. I'm doing a similar approach of what I'm doing in the Book of Mormon right now, which is to highlight the names of Christ in one color, His promises (more in this case His word), and the fulfillment of those promises (or Him doing what He said...

Letter #41- Week 43: Nine is Prime

July 15, 2019 Hola Everyone! Last Tuesday I dropped off Hermana Jeppson to take on the big world by herself and picked up Hermana Patchell! I'm sad to see Hermana Jeppson go, but I am excited for her and all that she is going to do and everyone she is going to help over in Utah. She has been a wonderful example to me in diligence and love. She knows how to take care of people and how to keep moving forward, even when things get tough. I love her so much. I also got to say goodbye to Hermana Jensen and we got to take a cute picture all together. I was at least lucky enough to recieve an outstanding companion in her place! Hermana Patchell is basically Wonder Woman. She has such a fire for the work along with being diligent and effective. I am going to learn so much from her and I'm excited to improve and grow in the next six weeks with her. It was a mad crazy week 1 though. Tuesday we had transfers down in Queens, Wednesday we had district council and ward missi...

Letter #39 - Week 41: When Thy Blessings Rain on Me, I Will Be A Watershed for Thee

July 3, 2019 Hola Everyone! I was going to title my email something based on 'Fireflies' by Owl City, but then Elder Fay had his preparation day before me and did that, so what do you do? I saw fireflies for the first time ever and I even caught one! They're pretty magical, so I'm living the dream right now in CT. I always thought that those movies where it rains for like a minute and everyone is soaked were just for dramatic effect, but IT IS REAL. We were at a members home and we had a to leave. The member offered us an umbrella, but it was so windy that it wouldn't have helped, so she gave us a table cloth and we went for it. Hermana Jeppson ran too fast for me so I didn't get the cover for the last few seconds, but we were both so wet that the had to go home and change. It was lots of fun though and kind of felt like being in a car wash. We have found success in using member scripture study group chats and are in the process of implementing them more co...
