Letter #16 - Week 18: My Trainer is so Cool that Sometimes I Accidentally Call Her Mom
January 21, 2019
Hola Everyone!
Tomorrow is the fated day that Hermana Jensen leaves me to bigger and better things. We had transfer calls on Saturday, and Hermana is going to be a SISTER TRAINING LEADER IN MANHATTAN. Wow, so cool. She is a testimony to me of how well Heavenly Father knows us and how much he helps us grow as individuals, one by one. Hermana Jensen never ceased to amaze me with her compassion, patience, and love for the people. I know that there is no better person who could have helped me #adjusttomissionarylife
Elder Lee, Elder Monk and Elder Sterling are also going to Manhattan and Elder Mensching is going to Staten Island. The rest of us are staying here in Flushing. One of the Korean companionships is closing, but the Elders Kang are going to be in a trio along with none other than me! I'll be living the trio life again with Hermana Walker and Hermana Van Woerkom. Hermana Van Woerkom was my roommate at the MTC! So, I never really expected that this early on. Even though one of the companionships is leaving, we'll still have a district of 10 people (and it'll still be the smallest I've ever had).
Last Monday we went bowling. Bowling is good for the soul. We also went to a Korean restaurant and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I like curry, and the cabbage salad stuff wasn't awful. We went to look someone up and there was a Aquí Somos Católicos sticker half scratched off with some adjustments. What a classic.
Queens decided to be Rexburg the last two days. This was Hermana's first experience with wind so hard it almost blows you over. Combined with being from California, it's been a rough few days for her. Attached is a Screenshot of the weather this morning, and it's one of the first times it's been colder here than in Rexburg since I've been here.
We saw a lot a miracles in this last week. One of the kids has really changed in this last week, and it is amazing to see how much the gospel can have an effect on people, even a twelve year old. When we were traveling on the subway, I happened to see someone we were teaching. It turned out that he had unexpectedly moved, and we didn't have his phone number, so we don't know if we would have ever found out what happened to him. It is easy to see Heavenly Father's hand in a metropolitan area of millions and millions of people. How else are you supposed to find someone in Grand Central Station so far away from home?
I know that the gospel of Jesus Christ changes lives.
3 Nephi 11:6-11
6 And behold, the third time they did understand the voice which they heard; and it said unto them:
7 Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified my name—hear ye him.
8 And it came to pass, as they understood they cast their eyes up again towards heaven; and behold, they saw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white robe; and he came down and stood in the midst of them; and the eyes of the whole multitude were turned upon him, and they durst not open their mouths, even one to another, and wist not what it meant, for they thought it was an angel that had appeared unto them.
9 And it came to pass that he stretched forth his hand and spake unto the people, saying:
10 Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world.
11 And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning.
¡Les amo!
Hermana Prue
