Letter #8 - Week 10- Falling for Fall 2018

November 26, 2018 Hola everyone! This past week stared off with a bang with visiting Mets Stadium and the Unisphere. I don't know much about baseball or the United States Steel Corporation, but it was in a pretty park it made for some fun pictures. The weather has been getting lots colder, and with my hands in my pocket there wasn't much I could do to catch my fall when tripped on the way to visit someone we're teaching on Monday Evening. Luckily, I had the small first aid kit from the new missionary meeting the week before, and we were able to clean it up a bit before continuing on the rest of the night. Wednesday we had exchanges and I stayed in Flushing with Hermana Masoe. We took pictures with the Chinese ladies. Thanksgiving was very pleasant. We went to a dinner a member and a lot of her family, then some ladies in the ward had a dinner for us at the church. Friday we taught Randy (we found him at a bus stop my first day in the field) at...

Letter #7 - Week 9- My Favorite Forms of Exercise Include Old Chinese People and Dreaming of a White Thanksgiving

November 19. 2018 Hola Everyone! Missionary life brings a multiplicity of changes, including language, culture, and lifestyle. Aside from the obvious differences, I think I've eaten more vegetables, run harder and faster, and talked to more people than I ever have in my life thanks to Hermana Jensen. Luckily, sometimes she has mercy on my soul when it comes to exercise, and we get to go to the parks where we can go at our own paces. There are some old Chinese ladies that do these same two exercise videos every morning. They don't speak English, but they are always so kind in letting us into their circle. Maybe my favorite part is the C-Pop Christmas music in the background. It's a nice change every once in a while from running until I can't run anymore. New York City had it's first snow of the season on Thursday, and it did not play around. It was projected to be just an inch of snow in the evening, but it turned out to be more like a storm that ...

Letter #6 - Week 8- Aquí Somos Católicos

November 12, 2018 Hola Everyone! It was an exciting week here in Queens. I went to my first zone conference, and Elder Haynie from the seventy was there and taught us lots of good things, especially the importance of going to church. There were a handful of zones there, so I got to see the Heramanas that I roomed with at the CCM, as well as Elder Lambert from my MTC district. Speaking of people that I know, Elder Spencer Lee is in my district. I forgot to mention that last week, but I went to high school with him. It's amazing to see the Lord's hand in our lives when it comes to the people He puts in our paths. I also my first set of exchanges this week, so I was out on Long Island for a day. It was interesting for a change of pace, but I was happy to get back into the city. We tried to mix up weekly planning this week. A majority of it was done in the church's elevator and a bagel shop. One of the members works at the shop, so we went and said hi to her an...

Letter #5 - Week 7 - Welcome to New York

November 5, 2018 Hola Everyone! I made it to New York alive and well. It was sad to leave my district behind at the CCM on Sunday, but I ended up seeing 7 of the 10 others in my district in the airport the next morning, haha. Monday was long, it was good to get back to the states. I'm currently serving in Flushing, which is China Town in Northern Queens. My trainer's name is Hermana Jensen (from California), and we're in a trio with Hermana Tua'one (from Texas). Hermana Tua'one is on her last transfer, and Hermana Jensen has her half way (nine month) mark tomorrow! It's well balanced, haha. Also, fun fact about our companionship is that all of us were called to different missions. New York New York North, South, and City. I'm serving in a Spanish-English branch, which is a lot different than I expected. Basically everything happens in one language or the other, and then is translated through headsets for sacrament meeting, or just ot...
