Image
September 23, 2019 Hola Everyone! Last Wednesday marked Hermana Gonzalez' y my year mark, so here's some fun facts and stats from the past year: -1 mission -2 states -3 areas -4 seasons -5 boroughs -6 week transfers -7 mission languages -8 district leaders -9 transfers -10 companions -The number fun facts are a little bit of a stretch, but I came up with facts -I've been on exchanges for approximately 419 hours -I've taught at least one lesson or been to a ward function in every geographical area in our mission North of the Bronx except for Danbury (that's 7 areas) Stats I wish I could give: -Pounds of rice I've eaten -The amount of Hispanic women that I've never met previously and given besos to -The number of times someone has told me that I'm not from around here/ guessed wrong the small state I'm from This week Area Book Planner 4.0 came out of nowhere, but I like it a lot. The biggest change is that the calendar now actually has...

Letter #50 - Week 52: Rats And Cats And Ecuadorian Enchiladas

September 16, 2019 Hola Everyone! Some highlights of the week: - Exchanges with querida Hermana Walker. So much food - I saw my first real life New York rat - Also, all the stray cats and raccoons - Last preperation day I found a a bag of Idaho potatoes straight from Rexburg, and I bought them - I got my ears cleaned out, so now I can hear the people we're teaching and everyone else as well - We had two more false fire alarms, one at midnight and the other one just as we were leaving for prime time -There is a 9/11 memorial outside of our window right on the Hudson, and we were able to hear a little bit of a memorial service while we were studying Wednesday morning -Face to Face with Elder Soares and Elder Christisen. All of the missionaries were invited to watch it at the church buildings! President Teuscher told us if an Apostle of the Lord was talking to us until 10pm, then we should sit there and then get home in a timely manner 😂 - Deep cleaning each transfe...

Letter #49 - Week 51: "Seester, In This House We Don't Share"

Image
September 9, 2019 Hola, Hola Everyone! This week was a very missionary kind of week. We laughed, we cried, we ate lentils. And I forgot I hadn't sent a weekly and now it's 5:35 EST, so we will have the week in bullet points: -We went from 5 baptismal dates to 0 real fast (but don't worry, the church is still true) -It's Hermana Gonzalez' 20th birthday on Friday, Feliz Cumpleaños a ti Hermana -We got to do a pass off lesson with Elder David Thompson from Rexburg and his companions. It wasn't the best lesson, but that was fun -We ate at Bispo Abreu's home, and he made us real Brasilian barbecue, which was really yummy. We had grilled bananas for dessert. We were running a little late so I split the banana in half with Hermana and ate it as fast as I could, and when Bispo saw what I had did, he said (in his heavily accented English) , "Seester, in this house we don't share, don't ever let me see you do that ever again" and gave me ano...

Letter #48 - Week 50: The Manhattan Skyline Looks Very Pretty At 4:30 am In Case You Were Wondering

September 2, 2019 Hola Everyone! This week started off with an alarm! The fire alarms went off at 4:30 this morning, and I would have totally slept through it if it hadn't been for Hermana Gonzalez waking me up. One of the firemen told us he was pretty sure that someone had been smoking on the top floor and that's what set the alarms off for the whole building. It was quite the adventure, and it was a lot of fun to see all of the lights and the river at night. We figured out the whole two area balancing act more and didn't spend so much time driving around crazy. I feel like every missionary skill I've developed left me when I came to Yonkers and I've just been running around a little bit with my head cut off, but it's slowly all coming back together. This week should be even better! It's hard to believe that it's already the third week of the transfer, and already the FIFTIETH WEEK of the mission. That's bastante weeks. I've yet to h...

Letter #47 - Week 49: Driving Me Yonkers (And New Rochelle Too)

Image
August 26, 2019 Hola Everyone! It's absolutely wild to think that 7 short days ago I was in Connecticut enjoying my avacado toast. In the last couple of weeks, President Teuscher has been reaching out to the sisters of the mission to see if there was anyone who spoke Spanish that wasn't in the Spanish program. Well, he didn't find anyone, and so he had to close one of the Spanish Sister areas for a transfer until the last big wave of new missionaries come in next transfer. President decided to close the New Rochelle area, but what I didn't know was that we would be temporarily covering New Rochelle. Combining these two active areas means a few things: - We are trying to regularly teach more than 30 people (a weak pool compared to the crisis of 60 in the Bronx, but I guess they went a little crazy too) and take care of 11 recent converts (half of all these people we don't know) -Between trying to contact people, setting up spreadsheets, gathering and inpu...
