Letter # 25 - Week 27: The Most Peaceful Building in NYC

Image
March 26, 2019 Hola Everyone! Today I was able to go to the temple in Manhattan! It was beautiful and I'm grateful for the mercy on our souls every six months, haha. It was a very long week, but lots of good things happened. We got a member breakfast from a restaurant that he goes to a lot. We scheduled it the night before and we're all ready at the place at 7 am and HE THOUGHT WE WERE JOKING, so he wasn't there. He came really fast before he had to run to work. He felt bad, but all's well that ends well, haha. I had an atheist plant a seed of faith and he said he would grow his greenbean plant and eat the fruits of it, so, we'll see how that goes. We had a pretty awkward FHE with a lady who doesn't have a lot of knowledge about Christianity- there were 4 members present and we think she was a little overwhelmed. Most of our appointments fell through this week, but we were able to meet with two girls who have moved from China recently. They both have a b...

Letter #24 - Week 26: Dawn of the Second Day (48 Hours Remaining)

March 18, 2019 Hola Everyone! If the mission was three days long, I'd be done with a whole day of it. One of the most exciting things about hitting my 6-month mark is that I get to go to the temple next week! I will be going a week from tomorrow and my Preperation Day will be on Tuesday. I have learned a lot in the past six months and I'm grateful that I have the opportunity to be out here and dedicating everything to the Lord's work right now. This week had plenty going on between zone conference, exchanges, and lots of knocking. At zone conference we continued to learn about more effective finding by working with less active members and part member families. We're working on being more persistent in asking for referrals effectively. There were a lot of basketball analogies and I didn't really get them, but I got the gist. I went on exchanges with Sister Martin whose parents currently reside in Rexburg! She is lots of fun and it was a good exchange here ...

Letter #23 - Week 25: It's Fun to Serve in the Y-S-A-Ward

March 11, 2019 Hola Everyone! I made it to CT alright and it has been lots of change. It seriously feels like being in a different mission compared to the city. I have been learning a lot between new area, new companions, and bunches of new people. There used to be a set of English sisters and a set of Spanish sisters in this ward, with the English sisters also over the Young Single Adult ward. Apparently the Spanish sisters were supposed to be over the YSA as well, but no one knew! They traded out the English Sisters for Spanish Elders, so now the five of us are all over English, Spanish, and YSA in the area. It's going to be a wild ride because we're basically starting from scratch with English and YSA. I'm really excited to be serving with all of them. Some differences between Queens and CT: -I'm in a car. A really nice car. A 2019 car. It's a little different from public transit -So many WHITE PEOPLE. Luckily we can teach those now -Lots of we...

Letter #22 - Week 24- The Only Thing I Really Know About Connecticut is that Yale is There and That I Only Know from Gilmore Girls ft. A Trio of Trios

March 4, 2019 Hola Everyone! Tomorrow I will be kicked out of Queens and headed for Stamford, Connecticut. My new companions will be Hermana Hopkins and Hermana Cahill, and with them I will have officially been in a trio longer than a duo on my mission. I'm excited to be there. Stamford is Hermana Tua'one's old area, and Hermana Hopkins is Hermana Jensen's old companion. Hermana Cahill is from Hermana Jensen's home stake, so everyone already knows everyone! Hermana Walker will be training a new missionary with Hermana Van Woerkom here in Flushing. Two of the areas in our district closed, the English Elders and the Korean Sisters. Elder Kang Junior and Elder Hwang are staying as the Korean Elders, with Elder Kang Senior going to Brooklyn. Sister Lee and Elder Jeong are going to Manhattan, Sister Park is staying here in Queens, and Elder Joy is returning home. All of the Korean missionaries are going to YSA areas, so they're all having a littl...
